and Speaker of the National Assembly of the State of Kuwait Marzouq Ali al-Ghanim took place in the State Duma. Sergei Neverov expressed hope that this visit would help strengthen cooperation between our states in all areas.
“Russia and Kuwait traditionally have friendly relations,” said Sergei Neverov, and noted that they have a solid foundation of mutually beneficial cooperation and mutual respect.
“We are continuing to work together on the progressive development of relations in various fields,” he stressed. Energy, industry, and investment, as well as regional interaction were mentioned as an example. Sergei Neverov said that this work is aimed at realization of the agreements reached by the heads of the two states.
Syrian settlement
The Deputy Chairman of the State Duma also noted the similarity of the positions of the Russian Federation and Kuwait on global and Middle Eastern issues. “We are grateful to the Kuwaiti side for supporting the Russian Federation on various international platforms,” said Sergei Neverov.
The parties discussed the countering of the terrorist threat in the region and the Syrian issue, which should be resolved exclusively by diplomatic means as any other issue, among other things. “We attach particular importance to the development of rational solutions to such an acute problem as Syrian settlement,” said Sergei Neverov. He noted the importance of joint work of Russia and Kuwait in this matter, as well as creating conditions for the early return of Syrian refugees to their native land. “Our country pays great attention to helping the Syrian people. We count on the assistance of the Kuwaiti side in this matter,” said the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma.
The situation around Qatar
In addition, the parties discussed the situation around Qatar. “We actively support the intermediary services of Kuwait in resolving the crisis around Qatar,” said Sergei Neverov and added that disagreements between the countries of the region should be resolved at the negotiating table with mutual consideration of the interests of all participants.

visited Qatar and took part in the events of the 140th IPU Assembly, and also held a meeting with Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. “We attach great importance to the activities of this international organization,” said the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma. He noted that unlike many other international structures it traditionally has a constructive atmosphere and considers interference in the affairs of sovereign states and sanctions against parliamentarians unacceptable.
