During the meeting, the parties touched upon the issues of the agenda of the 2nd Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments of Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Russia and Turkey on counter-terrorism and strengthening regional cooperation. The development of inter-parliamentary relations between Russia and Iran was also discussed.

Ali Ardashir Larijani noted the depth of relations between the two countries.

“Thanks to the efforts of [President of Russia] Vladimir Putin, relations between our countries are in a stage of growth,” he said.

The Chairman of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the cooperation between the Russian Federation and Iran to be very important in the region. “The Astana process of settling the Syrian issue is a very good example. I think it was a very good initiative,” said Ali Ardashir Larijani.

Viacheslav Volodin noted that “the presidents set the dynamics of relations between our countries.”

“Our task is legislative interaction and ensuring the realization of decisions made at the proper level,” said the Chairman of the State Duma. He also stated that “those formats that are being implemented to enhance inter-parliamentary interaction have proven their effectiveness.” This is a high-level bilateral commission, communication within the framework of the Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments and the Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments of Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Russia and Turkey on counter-terrorism and strengthening regional cooperation.

“This format was tested last year in Islamabad, and we agreed that it can be effective,” said Viacheslav Volodin.
