The meeting of the Chairman of the State Duma and the Chairman of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran was held prior to the first session of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the Majlis of Iran, which will be held in Volgograd today.

The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
and Ali Larijani informed about the growth of mutual
settlements in national currencies and noted the importance of cooperation
between the Caspian countries and regions. This was
a reason for choosing Volgograd as a meeting place of parliamentarians. The preparation of the first session of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the Majlis of Iran, which is held within the framework of parliamentary dimension, was also discussed.
Opening the meeting, Viacheslav Volodin noted that “for the first time a delegation of such level led by the Chairman of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran arrived in Volgograd”.
“I hope that this will not only help us to understand the regional component of our countries but also discuss more profoundly the issues on the agenda,” he said.
“As for the parliamentary dimension,
everything must be done to ensure legislative support for decisions taken at the highest level and, of course, to discuss issues that we can solve together,”
the Chairman of the State Duma added.
In his turn, Ali Larijani stated that “as for the development of a dialog and relations between our countries we have common vision”.
In this connection, speaking about the forthcoming session of the Commission, the Chairman of the Majlis expressed the hope that “we will be able to translate our dialogues into a more practical aspect”.
He noted several topical key areas of cooperation between Russia and Iran: oil, transport, agriculture, cooperation in the industrial and investment spheres.
“I think that today we have an opportunity to discuss these issues in order to prepare the appropriate prerequisites for the development of our countries,” said Ali Larijani.
“As for interregional cooperation, I would like to note that it is realized quite well. 18 Iranian provinces are cooperating with their Russian counterparts, regions,” the Chairman of the Majlis of Iran said.
The parliamentarians also discussed
the development of cooperation in the sphere of combating terrorism. “It seems
to me that today the international community has already recognized that Iran
and Russia have achieved a great success in the elimination of terrorism,” Ali
Larijani said.
During the meeting, Ali Larijani suggested the appointment of two people responsible for maintaining a permanent dialogue
between the parliaments. Viacheslav Volodin supported this initiative. Deputy
Chairman of the State Duma Sergei Neverov will be appointed from the Russian
part.
In addition, the parties discussed the preparation for the third meeting of the speakers of the Eurasian countries, which will be held in Turkey in early October.
The Chairman of the Majlis of Iran also expressed gratitude “for the [Russian] efforts in reaching consensus on a nuclear agreement”.
Concluding the meeting, the Chairman of the State Duma said: ”Once again I want to express my gratitude that you have found the possibility to come as the head of the delegation to conduct the session of the Commission on Cooperation“.
Negotiations between the Chairman of the State Duma and the Chairman of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Larijani were held in Volgograd, where the first session of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the Majlis of Iran will be held today.
Iranian parliamentarians arrived in Volgograd the day before. Today they laid flowers and wreaths at the Eternal Flame on Mamayev Kurgan in a company of the members of the State Duma.
Earlier, Viacheslav Volodin and Ali Larijani had already held several meetings: on June 27, 2017 in Seoul “on the sidelines” of the Second Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments, on October 14–18, 2017 in St. Petersburg within the framework of the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, on December 24, 2017 in Islamabad at the regional conference of heads of parliaments (chambers of parliaments) on issues of combating terrorism and interregional interaction. In addition, on December 4, 2017 Ali Larijani took part in an anti-drug conference in Moscow. Another meeting was held during the official visit of the Chairman of the State Duma to Iran on April 8–9, 2018, where a decision to establish the Commission was taken.
