met with the Speaker of the Lok Sabha of the Parliament of the Republic of India Om Birla on the sidelines of the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St. Petersburg.

Vyacheslav Volodin noted the strategic partnership between Russia and India. He also noted the contribution of the leaders of the two states that helped Russia-India relations reach such a high level. The Chairman of the State Duma also drew attention to the need to intensify the work of the inter-parliamentary commission.

“The joint statement that was adopted following Narendra Modi’s visit to Moscow set the task of enhancing cooperation between the parliaments of the two states, including holding regular meetings of the inter-parliamentary commission. We should implement this task and do everything to create an inter-parliamentary mechanism to solve effectively the tasks set by Narendra Modi and Vladimir Putin,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.

He invited the Speaker of the Lok Sabha of the Parliament of India to pay another visit to Russia to hold the next meeting of the inter-parliamentary commission.

Under Russia's chairmanship, BRICS is creating opportunities for even stronger cooperation, according to Om Birla.

“Other countries have also joined BRICS, and that means that there are now more opportunities to represent countries of the Global South and developing countries at such platforms and we, united, will be able to work even better together for the people of these countries,” said the Speaker of the Lok Sabha of the Parliament of India.

Om Birla also invited Vyacheslav Volodin and a delegation of the State Duma to pay a visit to India.
