The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
held a meeting with the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Speaker of the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania Tulia Ackson. Issues of development of inter-parliamentary cooperation between BRICS and the IPU were discussed at the meeting. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 10thBRICS Parliamentary Forum in St. Petersburg.

Vyacheslav Volodin noted that the IPU “is the largest inter-parliamentary organization in the world”: the Union unites 180 countries. “We see how the Inter-Parliamentary Union differs in a good way from those organizations that were created under the control of Washington and Brussels,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.

“It is necessary to resolve issues related to forming a legal framework, harmonizing legislation, and preparing model laws. This is the future of any inter-parliamentary structure if we want to develop relations between our countries, because there are common challenges and, by developing common approaches, we can address them more effectively,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin.

When building relations at the inter-parliamentary organizations, it is important to adhere to the principles of mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states, according to him. “For example, PACE – the organization of double standards and manipulation. As a result, everyone leaves this organization. We also left and did not want to waste time there. We believe that it is necessary to build relations only with those who are ready for dialogue,” added the Chairman of the State Duma.

According to Tulia Ackson, the Inter-Parliamentary Union shares the same values. “For more than 100 years of work of the IPU, we have tried to adhere to the principle of mutual respect, we have tried to adhere to non-double standards policy in our affairs,” she said.

“It is very important that the IPU representatives are here today, especially in the current conditions when the world is gripped by uncertainty. Such formats as the BRICS Parliamentary Forum are very important platforms for discussing issues and problems,” emphasized Tulia Ackson.

Speaking about the development of bilateral relations between Russia and Tanzania, Vyacheslav Volodin noted trade turnover: comparing it to the previous years, it has recently doubled. “This once again proves that we can and must build relations by listening to each other,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
