The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
, speaking
at the first plenary meeting of the spring plenary session 2021, recalled that
the social media accounts of the current US President Donald Trump and his
supporters had been suspended, so they were deprived of their fundamental right — freedom of speech, and there was no a court decision.
“The political opponents of the outgoing President are behind this decision. And this is nothing more than a direct encroachment on the fundamental rights and freedoms of the US citizens,” said Viacheslav Volodin.
He added that the US information platforms and IT companies are global, international, and in fact, monopoly companies.
“If they act so arrogantly and unceremoniously in their own country, how they will act and what their actions towards other countries will be,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
“It is necessary to do everything so that representatives of international IT companies in Russia should work only within the framework of our national legislation,” he stressed. This is necessary measures to prevent the same unlawful actions of the US social networking services on the territory of the Russian Federation.
The recent events require an assessment of international organizations, as Viacheslav Volodin said. Their silence is another example of double standards. The European Parliament keeps silent, but earlier its representatives made various statements on the situations in Russia, Ukraine, Venezuela, Belarus and Hong Kong.
“The European Union should begin with its own responsibilities. Stop shooting people with rubber bullets, poisoning them with gas, using water cannons in winter. In fact, it looks like tortures used during World War II,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma.
“The State Duma Committee on International Affairs should prepare proposals for international organizations to analyze the current situation with freedom of speech and develop solutions to prevent this in the future. Stop acting like an ostrich, as if nothing is happening. We need to initiate this work and try to do everything to finally wake the international organizations from their slumber,” said Viacheslav Volodin.
