The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
emphasized that all meetings were successful.
“We discussed this issue, perhaps we will work together at the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, today we have already invited our colleagues from the Legislative Chamber of the Parliament of Uzbekistan to participate in the work of the Parliamentary Assembly as observers,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
Viacheslav Volodin and Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed the development of bilateral relations in various spheres, including humanitarian. The President of Uzbekistan told Viacheslav Volodin about the First International Handicrafters Festival held in Kokand. In his turn, the Chairman of the State Duma suggested holding an exhibition of Uzbek arts and crafts in the State Duma.
“Until today, we have had almost zero relations between parliaments. The last meeting was in 2006, and the last visit of the head of the parliament of Uzbekistan to Russia took place in 1997. And, of course, the possibilities that parliaments have were not used to develop relations between the countries,” the Chairman of the State Duma reminded, summing up the visit.
Viacheslav Volodin emphasized that “relations began to develop dynamically somewhere about two and a half — three years ago when the presidents of our countries did everything to give dynamics and new content to our relations.”
“Such dynamics require, inter alia, legislative decisions and the implementation of agreements at the highest level. These are laws, agreements. And, of course, when we talk about the parliamentary dimension, the relations between parliaments make it possible for peoples to better understand each other. And our task now is to create new forms of relations using inter-parliamentary structures and the possibilities that we have. The agreement which we signed today allows us to do this. We made the first step,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
This is the first visit of the Chairman of the State Duma to Uzbekistan since 2006. He had previously held meetings with heads of both houses of parliament.
