The resolution
of the State Duma on recommendations to the Government of the Russian
Federation to initiate the introduction of special economic restrictive measures
against Georgia will be sent later today to the Prime Minister of the Russian
Federation Dmitry Medvedev. The Chairman of the State Duma Viacheslav Volodin
Volodin
Vyacheslav Victorovich
The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
told
parliamentary journalists about that.
“The decision will be formalized in accordance with our rules and sent to the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation today. And then the final decision has to be made by the Government, ”he said, recalling that this was confirmed by the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of the Russian Federation at the State Duma Alexander Sinenko at the plenary meeting of the State Duma.
He stressed that members of the State Duma believe that any manifestations of “hatred, intolerance and offensive words towards the leadership of our country, the President of the Russian Federation, the Russian state and our citizens” are inadmissible.
“We believe that it is not allowed to behave like that, and therefore we adopted the decision to appeal to the Government of the Russian Federation to initiate proposals to the President of the Russian Federation to ban mineral water and wine import. We believe it would be right to ban the remittances from the territory of the Russian Federation. And, of course, Russian citizens should not travel to Georgia as they can become hostages of the situation of intolerance and Russophobia,” Viacheslav Volodin explained.
He recalled that after provocation against the Russian delegation at session of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, the President of Georgia “emphasized that Russia is the aggressor, and the Russian people are occupants.”
“This is unacceptable; we are neither aggressors, nor occupants. We have done a lot and are doing for Georgia and we can’t afford our country to be treated that way,” the Chairman of the State Duma stressed.
According to Viacheslav Volodin, Georgia ,first of all, should be interested in developing relations with Russia, as Russia ” is the number one importer of Georgian wine and Georgian mineral water, our country also ranks first in terms of cash remittances from the territory of Russia as remittances totaled $ 641 million last year. ” In addition, according to him, the number of Russian tourists coming to Georgia is growing every year.
“All this should impose certain responsibility on Georgia and the Georgian leadership. They should value such relations, and the trade and economic turnover is growing also and that Russia contributes almost 20% of Georgia’s GDP, they should maintain these cooperation,” he stressed.
