Members of the State Duma at the plenary meeting on Tuesday, July 9, unanimously adopted a resolution on the statement “On possible additional economic restrictive measures in connection with anti-Russian provocations in Georgia.”

“In connection with the continued unfriendly actions, the State Duma recommends the Government of the Russian Federation to consider the desirability of imposing special economic restrictive measures against Georgia provided by the Federal Law “On Special Economic Measures and Coercive Measures” and to submit relevant proposals to the President of the Russian Federation,” as the document says.

“We consider offends of our country, threats to our citizens, insults against our President, unacceptable,” stressed the Chairman of the State Duma Viacheslav Volodin Volodin Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin

He explained that, first of all, restrictive measures include the ban on the import of Georgian wine and mineral water to Russia, as well as the restriction of remittances from Russia to Georgia. According to him, to date, Russia ranks first in terms of cash remittances; remittances have increased one and a half times over the past two years and totaled $ 641 million last year.

“These are very large amounts of money, if you take and add the transfer of these funds with the income that Georgia receives from the wine and mineral water import to Russia, as well revenues from our tourists. It is about 10% of the gross domestic product, which Georgia gets as a state,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
