“The Council of the State Duma unanimously approved a decision to prepare a statement [on the situation in Georgia]. We are going to consider it tomorrow at the plenary meeting of the State Duma. We consider offends of our country, threats to our citizens, insults against our President, unacceptable. And in this regard, we propose to the Government to consider the possibility of suspension of wine and sparkling water import from the territory of Georgia to Russia. We also discussed the issues of the ban of remittances from Russia,” said Viacheslav Volodin Volodin Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin

He stressed that to date Russia ranks first in terms of cash remittances, remittances have increased one and a half times over the past two years and totaled $ 641 million last year.

“These are very large amounts of money, if you take and add the transfer of these funds with the income that Georgia receives from the wine and mineral water import to Russia, as well as the tourists’ money. It will be about 10% of the gross domestic product, which Georgia gets as a state,” he stressed.

In addition, Viacheslav Volodin said that “this is a provocation launched from overseas, and those extremist forces that are involved in it, contribute not only to unfolding hysteria of tension, but also to the crisis on the territory of Georgia itself, but Georgian people should handle this situation themselves.”

”As for our country, no one will allow […] to use abusive language in relation to our citizens and our President,” he concluded.

Viacheslav Volodin also commented on the situation in the OSCE PA on “the adoption of a resolution that was unfriendly towards our state, without a majority, and violated the regulations.”

“We pay more than € 200 thousand to the budget of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Georgia — € 1.5 thousand. But at the same time, they violate all norms, rules and regulations. Where does this behavior come from? Mostly Russia funds this entire institution, and at the same time [they] behave so rude. We are against this,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
