The task of members of the State Duma together with their Armenian colleagues is to ensure in the legislation the implementation of the decisions taken by the leaders of the two countries, said the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma, head of the United Russia faction Sergei Neverov Neverov Sergey Ivanovich Neverov

at a meeting with the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on Friday, June 28.

Opening the meeting, Sergei Neverov noted that the contacts between the parliamentarians of Armenia and Russia are regular. According to him, regular active dialogue at the highest level helps to build an effective model of interstate cooperation. “And later this year on October 1, President Vladimir V. Putin is going to visit Yerevan to participate in the next meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. The task of members of the State Duma together with our Armenian colleagues is to ensure in the legislation the implementation of the decisions taken by the leaders of our countries,” said Sergei Neverov.

In his opinion, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), where Russia and Armenia closely cooperate, has a special role to play in the implementation of large-scale projects.

“Working together in the framework of the EAEU will help to solve effectively the most urgent integration processes, including the digital agenda,” said Sergei Neverov, adding that this is one of the priorities issues of the legislators of the two countries.

The Deputy Chairman of the State Duma noted that the meeting was held on the eve of the 31st meeting of the Russia-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Commission. “We attach great importance to the further joint work within the framework of the Russia-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Commission, which has been successfully working for 20 years,” said Sergei Neverov. – Today, a meeting of the Commission in the updated composition is going to be held. The Russian side supported the proposal of the Armenian colleagues to change the status of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission to the level of vice-speakers. From our side, it is headed by the Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Yury Vorobyov. ”

Sergei Neverov also supported the established practice of holding meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission in various regions of Russia. “The Armenian community is actively working throughout the entire territory of our country, there are quite large diasporas in many regions. I think that the work of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission in various regions will give it a special status,” the parliamentarian believes.

He paid attention to the fact that the day before the Conference “International inter-municipal cooperation in modern realities: opportunities and prospects” was held in the State Duma, where representatives of Armenia also took part. “I think this new format will help to develop our cooperation,” said Sergei Neverov.

In addition, in his opinion, it is necessary to develop the existing useful practice of joint meetings of relevant committees, including to discuss issues of concern and find ways how to address those issues.

“We are determined to develop cooperation both bilateral and within international platforms, such as the Second International Forum “Development of Parliamentarism”, which will be held in Moscow on July 1–2. And we are very glad that your delegation headed by the President of the National Assembly, Ararat Mirzoyan, will take part in its work,” stressed the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma.

According to him, the Russian parliamentarians attach particular importance to the development of a well-established formats such as the Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments. “This year it will be held on September 23–24 in Nur-Sultan. The issues of forming and harmonizing the legislative framework for the development of the digital economy will be considered at the Meeting,” the parliamentarian stressed.

“We have a lot of common topics that we could discuss together,” added Sergei Neverov.

The head of the Armenian delegation, Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan reassured that relations between Armenia and Russia will continue to develop actively.

As he said, the Armenian side “is very pleased that the Russian delegation has returned to PACE.” “Armenia and Russia have always supported each other at all platforms. And I assure you that our relations will continue to develop in this format,” said Alen Simonyan.

The Armenian authorities are ready to make every effort to find new prospective projects, he stressed. Sergei Neverov, in his turn, expressed his gratitude to the parliamentarians of Armenia for the support provided during the voting on the resolution on the credentials of the Russian delegation in PACE.
