The fact that the United States violated the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty puts the world on the brink of a new arms race and new challenges, stated the Chairman of the State Duma.

“Based on the steps of the United States of America that violated this Treaty, we believe that it is a right move to suspend it and do everything possible to ensure global security and, first of all, the security of our citizens,” said Chairman of the State Duma Viacheslav Volodin Volodin Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin

to parliamentary journalists.

He reminded that the bill introduced today by Russian President Vladimir Putin provides for the suspension of the INF Treaty giving the President the right to reinstate it in case the United States changes its position and takes steps towards.

Viacheslav Volodin called the US actions in relation to the Treaty ”unreasonable, moreover, putting the world on the brink of a new arms race and new challenges.“

”Other countries — the European Union, European countries — should also draw a conclusion if the United States wants peace for everyone, wants global security or by withdrawing from the Treaty and violating other agreements it makes European countries hostages to this decision,“ emphasized the Chairman.

Viacheslav Volodin also noted that Russia has done everything to preserve the contractual relations and obligations that were made by the USSR and the United States back in 1987 and guaranteed global security for all countries in the world.

“However the United States of America violated this Treaty, and our repeated proposals to preserve contractual obligations were unsuccessful,” he said.

“These approaches to the formation of a unipolar world have repeatedly shown how this ends. Therefore, of course, we want the European countries and the United States to understand that dialogue and the desire to support peace on the planet should be the key. There shall be concrete actions,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
