The signing a manifesto on recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights by President of the United States Donald Trump completely contradicts international law and UN resolutions. This opinion was expressed by the Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutskiy Slutsky Leonid Eduardovich Slutsky

“I am sure that such a position will not be supported by the world community. The one-sided pro-Israeli line of Washington will not simplify but, on the contrary, complicate the situation in the region. And this is the third destructive decision taken by the US administration, following the transfer of the US embassy to Jerusalem and the exit from the Iranian “nuclear deal,” said a parliamentarian.

According to Leonid Slutskiy, ”the US recognition of the Golan territory as the Israeli territory is based on two factors: the unconcealed personal sympathy of the US President towards Tel Aviv, and the positioning of Israel as a strategic partner of the United States.“

“The Golan Heights are of great importance for Israeli defense. And Trump decided to cut this knot completely ignoring the international consensus on this issue. Thus, the United States once again laid a mine under the settlement process in the Middle East,” the Chairman of the Committee concluded.
