during his speech. He mentioned the example of inter-Syrian negotiations within the framework of the Astana process, the promotion of negotiations on Iranian issues and the development of Russian-Turkish relations.

The Deputy Chairman of the State Duma stressed the closeness of the positions of Moscow and Astana in the assessment of many aspects of the international situation and noted the joint efforts to combat terrorism and extremism.

Sergei Neverov drew attention to the special contribution of Kazakhstan to the work of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which the country chairs this year. “We hope that our work will not go unnoticed by our colleagues in the UN Security Council, who have been trying to solve the task of creating a Unified list of terrorists and their organizations for more than a year,” said Sergei Neverov. According to him the decision taken by the CSTO PA allows to bring interaction between the special services to a new level and prevent situations when an organization recognized as a terrorist in one CSTO country could legally continue its activities in another state.

An important aspect of countering extremism is joint infrastructure projects, as it will create workplaces, will stimulate the development of territories and the economy, which “will reduce interest in extremist movements and radicalization,” the parliamentarian believes.

Speaking about the economy, Sergei Neverov expressed the opinion that the Eurasian Economic Union could “unite the potential of the countries of the EAEU, SCO, ASEAN, and other interested Asian countries.”

“The Eurasian Economic Commission received about 50 proposals on the establishment of a preferential trade regime,” the member of the State Duma reminded, adding that “negotiations on a free trade agreement are taking place with Israel and Singapore. Decisions on the start of negotiations on the conclusion of such agreements with Egypt, India, and Serbia have already been taken.”

Speaking with journalists, Sergei Neverov reminded that, mentioning the Eurasian Economic Union, it is necessary to note the great contribution of the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, who initiated its creation. “This idea was voiced during his lecture at Moscow State University in 1994. Next year there will be a some kind of anniversary since the establishment of the EAEU model. It is noteworthy that in 2019 the 4th Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments will be held in Astana,” the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma added.

The international parliamentary conference ”Astana is the center of global integration, security, and peace“ is held on the occasion of the Day of the First President of Kazakhstan. A bilateral meeting of Sergei Neverov with the Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin is also scheduled on the margins of the conference.
