Vasilii Piskarev: Russia is ready to enhance cooperation with Iran

The delegation held a meeting with Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Ardashir Larijani.

During the meeting, Ali Ardashir Larijani noted that Iran and Russia hold consultations and closely work together on various regional and international issues. Noting the efforts of the parliaments of the two countries to develop a new format of cooperation, Ali Ardashir Larijani stressed that the visits of parliamentary delegations are considered as a positive step towards expanded relationship between Tehran and Moscow. He also added that Russian legislators have adopted good bills in the field of cyber security, drug control and counter-terrorism, and Iran calls for the exchange of experience in these areas.

Vasilii Piskarev mentioned the friendly and constructive relations between the two countries in recent years and noted that the meetings of the Iranian and Russian authorities would lead to development of parliamentary cooperation between two countries.

“Russia is ready to enhance relations and cooperation with Iran,” Chairman of the Committee on Corruption Control added, expressing hope that the current experience of parliamentarians of the two countries in such areas as fight against terrorism, extremism and drug control and cyber security would be shared.

In addition, the members of the State Duma delegation held talks with Chairman of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh in the Iranian Parliament.

During the visit of the Russian parliamentary delegation in Tehran, meetings are also held at the Ministry of Interior and the Prosecutor-General's office of Iran, and at the Drug Control Headquarters. The Russian parliamentarians will discuss with their Iranian counterparts issues of cooperation in fields like counter-terrorism and drug control, and will exchange experience in countering corruption. The visit will last until November 7.
