The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
held a bilateral
meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq at the State Duma.
“Relations between our countries are developing, and we should note the great contribution of the heads of our states to this,” said Vyacheslav Volodin. According to him, parliamentarians within the parliamentary dimension should make their own contribution to strengthening cooperation, “so that we could understand each other better.”
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, in turn, noted that Pakistan “has an unprecedented level of cooperation with Russia, which the Republic does not have with any other country”. Following the meeting, there was signed an Agreement on Cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The Chairman of the State Duma stressed that this would be a new level of relations.
“We should do everything to ensure that the signing of the agreement will help to develop new formats of cooperation, make it more effective and mutually beneficial,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
Vyacheslav Volodin and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also discussed issues related to holding the next Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments on Countering Terrorism and Strengthening Regional Connectivity, which is planned to be held in Moscow in 2025.
According to the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, this conference helps “to conduct a dialogue on the issues of joint countering terrorism, food security, and enhancing regional ties.”
Issues of financial and economic cooperation between Russia and Pakistan, increasing mutual trade and joint efforts to counter threats and challenges were also discussed during the meeting. The Chairman of the State Duma recalled that more than 22 thousand sanctions had already been imposed on Russia. “We are overcoming them, doing everything to ensure that the country is developing,” emphasized the Chairman of the State Duma, noting the positive dynamics of GDP at purchasing power parity.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Pakistan supported his colleague and noted that bilateral cooperation already had a positive trend. He expressed confidence that new formats of cooperation would improve the effectiveness of the decisions made.
