In his address to the members of the State Duma, the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo noted that Russia and his country “are historically linked by ties of friendship”. According to him, parliaments play an important role in implementing the government policy: they defend the interests of their states in the international arena. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo is convinced that the current situation in the world requires decisiveness to defend social justice and equality to guarantee conditions for the peaceful development of each state and the achievement of global stability.

“The Russian Federation can play a key role in that, just as in the past your country contributed to the decolonization of African countries so that African countries could gain political independence,” stressed the President of the Republic. According to him, there is still the ongoing process of political liberation of African countries. It is hampered by their economic, technological, and energy backwardness caused by neocolonial policies, as added Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

Russia has always been and still is a super power that protects the interests of developing countries, according to the President of Equatorial Guinea. “Therefore, we are convinced that your country could continue to play this role in favor of our nations and the struggle to achieve economic, technological and energy progress,” he added.

Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo also drew attention to the fact that Africa had suffered the most from the slave trade, colonialism, and today the continent suffers from interference, discrimination, and unjust sanctions. “Throughout this historical process, Russia has been one of the few countries that helped, supported and still continues to protect Africa,” he emphasized.

In addition, in order to establish inter-parliamentary cooperation and exchange parliamentary experience, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo proposed to create a friendship group between the State Duma and the Parliament of Equatorial Guinea.
