Vyacheslav Volodin: parliaments of Russia and Cuba are implementing new forms of cooperation in the interests of two states

“The foundation for cooperation between our countries was laid at the most difficult time for Cuba and the Soviet Union. Then it was supported by those who believed in the selflessness, understanding the responsibility to their people, citizens of the countries,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin. “I should say that the current trend of cooperation was set by our presidents,” he added.

According to him, it is very important that the parliaments of the two countries should do everything to provide legislative support to the decisions taken by the presidents and develop new formats of cooperation, as well as enhance cooperation at the level of relevant committees.

“On September 30-October 2, it is planned to hold a large International Parliamentary Conference “Russia – Latin America”. We invite you to lead a delegation of the Cuban Parliament and visit the Russian Federation,” said Vyacheslav Volodin to the President of the Cuban Parliament.

Esteban Lazo Hernández accepted the invitation.

Vyacheslav Volodin also congratulated the President of the Cuban Parliament on the successful parliamentary elections and his re-election as President of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State of the Republic.

Esteban Lazo Hernández expressed support for Russia and condemned the Western sanctions imposed against Russia. “We know well the activities of the American government — the real culprit in this matter,” he stressed.

During the visit, the parliamentarians will take part in the first meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba. The Chairman of the State Duma has already met with the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, the President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
