The parliamentarians should do everything to provide legislative support to the decisions taken by the leaders of the states, as said the Chairman of the State Duma.
“We are also cooperating to solve regional problems. We see the current transition to a multipolar world. In this regard, our cooperation is also important,” emphasized Mustafa Şentop.
Vyacheslav Volodin stressed that the Russian and Turkish parliamentarians were convinced that relations “should be built on the basis of respect, trust, absence of double standards and the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.”
Inter-parliamentary cooperation in the interests of the two countries
“It is very important for us that we within the framework of the parliamentary dimension should not only implement the existing formats, but also try to find new approaches that will help us contribute to the development of cooperation between the two countries,” stressed Vyacheslav Volodin.
The speakers discussed the work of Russia- Türkiye high-level inter-parliamentary commission. Vyacheslav Volodin and Mustafa Şentop agreed to hold its meeting in Moscow.
The Chairman of the State Duma also noted the importance and necessity to resume holding the events of the Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments on Countering Terrorism and Strengthening Regional Connectivity with the participation of Iran, Pakistan, China, Türkiye and Russia. Vyacheslav Volodin suggested holding the next meeting in the first half of 2023 in Russia. “In the near future we will hold consultations with all partners to hold this meeting on the principles of solidarity,” added Vyacheslav Volodin.
Trade and economic relations
“Foreign trade relations are developing unprecedentedly,” said the Chairman of the State Duma. “The trade growth by 110% has become a reality. At the same time, we are talking about the possibility of increasing it to 100 billion USD in the next two years,” he added.
Mustafa Şentop recalled that the task of intensifying economic contacts between the two countries was discussed at one of the recent meetings of the leaders of the states.
In addition, the two countries have close contacts in the field of tourism. Türkiye is attractive for Russian tourists: tourists from Russia are treated well there, they can stay safely there, as added the Chairman of the State Duma.
Cultural ties
Vyacheslav Volodin and Mustafa Şentop also discussed issues of studying of Russian and Turkish languages in the two countries. The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament stressed that Russian people living in the Republic contributed to the development of intercultural relations. “Russian people who have been living in Türkiye for a long time have begun to open schools where education is conducted in Russian,” he said and expressed hope that Turkish schools would be opened in Russia.
“This issue should be on our agenda, because nothing brings people together like cultural ties, language and history,” added the Chairman of the State Duma.
The Chairman of the State Duma invited the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye to pay an official visit to Russia in 2023. Mustafa Şentop accepted the invitation.
The meeting was held as part of the official visit of the Chairman of the State Duma to Ankara.
