The Chairman of the State Duma posted that on his Telegram channel.

He recalled that the Russian Federation became a member of the Council of Europe on 28 February 1996. “We had high expectations: commitment to democratic ideals and principles, harmonization of the laws of the member states and equal dialogue of sovereign states. According to the Chairman of the State Duma, all those years Russia had tried to conduct a dialogue. “We were not heard. The Council of Europe is committed to the principles unilateral guidelines and double standards,” he added.

“The dialogue of the deaf has become meaningless in such conditions. Our country has notified the Council of Europe of its withdrawal from the organization. That is the right decision,” stressed Vyacheslav Volodin.

The Chairman of the State Duma emphasized that Russia was one of the five largest donors of the organization. This year, the country did not contribute about 4 billion 200 million rubles to the Council of Europe, and this money that will be used in Russia in sanctions conditions. “We will use this money to solve the problems of our citizens and support our economy,” added the Chairman of the State Duma.

“The Council of Europe no longer makes sense. The organization had recently been discussing only Russia, criticizing it, condemning, putting pressure, sending appeals and adopting resolutions,” mentioned Vyacheslav Volodin.

“Our colleagues at the Council of Europe will have nothing to do without our country. And there is only one solution – to disband,” he added.

“Leaving the Council of Europe, we will pay more attention to bilateral relations. We plan to continue dialogue with national parliaments. We are open for mutually beneficial cooperation,” concluded the Chairman of the State Duma.
