“The NATO member states are responsible for halting the dialogue with the Council of Europe, as they used human rights issues to fulfill their own geopolitical interests and blame our country. Due to the unprecedented political and sanctions pressure on our country, Russia does not plan to pay an annual contribution to this organization,” Petr Tolstoy Tolstoy Petr Olegovich Tolstoy

“The decision to withdraw was made just in the middle of another anti-Russian discussion in PACE, which could lead to adoption of another false anti-Russian resolution based on speculations that have nothing to do with reality,” he said.

“I would like to emphasize that Russia is withdrawing from the Council of Europe of its own free will, that is a balanced and deliberate decision,” stressed Petr Tolstoy.

The Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky Slutsky Leonid Eduardovich Slutsky

“By withdrawing from the Council of Europe, Russia will have to denounce the European Convention on Human Rights. But you should not be afraid of that. All the rights of Russian people will be absolutely and unconditionally guaranteed in our country. At the parliamentary level, we will be ready to start consider the draft law on the denunciation of the ECHR immediately after it will be submitted to the State Duma,” the parliamentarian stressed.
