The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
met with the President of the National Assembly
of the Republic of Nicaragua Gustavo Porras Cortés.
Vyacheslav Volodin invited Gustavo Porras Cortés to pay a visit to Moscow.
“We have plans to hold the International Forum “Development of Parliamentarism” in the beginning of July. I would like to invite you to take part in the event,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
He also noted the need for constant dialogue for development of cooperation between the two parliaments.
“Life is changing, it is full of challenges, so we need to constantly maintain a dialogue to develop new formats of cooperation to solve issues more effectively,” stressed Vyacheslav Volodin.
He added that the presidents set the course for relations between the two countries and parliaments also should contribute to that.
“For our part, we must do everything to provide legislative support to the agreements reached at the highest level,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
He also proposed to enhance cooperation between the relevant committees of the State Duma and the National Assembly of Nicaragua. According to Vyacheslav Volodin, that will help to reach a new level of productivity.
The Chairman of the State Duma also proposed to create a high-level commission on cooperation between the parliaments of Russia and Nicaragua.
“It is very important for us to turn our assurances of friendship into solving the problems that concern people. That would be useful both for our executive authorities and for the heads of our states,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
Meetings of the Commission may be held once a year in Russia and Nicaragua alternately.

Cortés supported these proposals.
“It would be great if the chairmen of the committees attending the meeting were able to establish working relations. This will help us to develop cooperation in such areas like economy, trade, tourism, foreign relations, education and defense. I think it is a good idea to establish such cooperation and systematically hold these meetings,” said Gustavo Porras Cortés.
The meeting participants also discussed international policies, in particular the US activities.
Gustavo Porras Cortés recalled that a US-backed coup attempt had been prevented in Nicaragua four years ago.
“Our enemies and adversaries want to kill the light of Augusto Sandino (national hero of Nicaragua – editor’s note), which brightens Latin America. And I have no doubt that there are same intentions to kill the light that brightens the Russian Federation, which gives us a multipolar world guarantee, gives us a security guarantees for all, especially for small nations like us,” said the President of the National Assembly of Nicaragua.
