and the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko discussed the agenda of the 61st session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, as well as issues
related to providing legislative support for the decisions of the Presidents of Russia and Belarus on the implementation of 28 union programs and the international agenda, including the situation at the Belarusian-Polish border.
“We need to work more efficiently. Our task is to use the capabilities of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia to do everything to make lives of our citizens better and to provide legislative support for the decisions made by the heads of our states so they will be implemented as soon as possible,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
He noted the importance of the session of the Parliamentary Assembly, which was planned to be held later that day. “We start our work when there are already decisions that should be implemented through legal acts. There are about 400 of them. The parliamentarians will have a lot of work to do,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
They also discussed possible new formats and increased number of commissions at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia. “It is important that the organization should be effective. We will proceed from the relevance,” emphasized Vyacheslav Volodin.
“If we need new formats, we should also consider this issue,” he added.
“Our citizens expect results from us that would help to improve their well-being and protect the sovereignty of our countries,” said Vyacheslav Volodin. He drew attention to the current challenges facing Russia and Belarus. He mentioned double standards, attempts to interfere in sovereign affairs and non-compliance with the principles of democracy by the Western countries in relation to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
In particular, he drew attention to the current situation at the border between Belarus and Poland and to the unacceptable reaction of the EU countries. Vyacheslav Volodin noted the need to develop unified standards to overcome such situations, including within the framework of PACE and OSCE PA.
He added that the agenda should include issues of countering the coronavirus pandemic.
Vyacheslav Volodin paid an official visit to Minsk on December 2. This is his first official visit as the Chairman of the State Duma of the eighth convocation. Earlier, he met with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
