According to the Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky Slutsky Leonid Eduardovich Slutsky

, the decision to suspend the work of Russia’s permanent mission to NATO and closure of the NATO Information and Military Alliance’s Liaison Offices in Moscow “is an adequate response to unjustified expulsion of eight Russian diplomats from Brussels”.

“The Alliance demonstrates overtly confrontational attitude towards the Russian Federation. All those words of the NATO leadership about the need for dialogue with Russia are at variance with its deeds. I fully agree with the Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, as in such circumstances, we can no longer continue to pretend that there will be some positive changes in relations with NATO in the near future,” stressed the parliamentarian.

According to Leonid Slutsky, “the collective West has made a lot in recent years to suspend contacts, not to mention the incessant provocations near the Russian borders.”

“We are ready for dialogue, but such a dialogue is possible only on an equal basis, and not from a position of strength,” concluded the Chairman of the Committee.
