“On July 13, the European Court of Human Rights stated that Russia should develop a legal procedure to register same-sex unions. . “That is imposition of the so-called “values” that are foreign to us. We will not implement the decision which is contrary to our Constitution,” he added.

“Representatives of various political factions in the Council of the State Duma, guided by the interests of our citizens, firmly oppose blatant interference in the internal affairs of our state and imposition of the so-called “values” which are foreign to the Russian people,” says the text of the statement adopted at the meeting of the Council of the State Duma.

It was emphasized in the text of the statement that ECHR decision “contradicts the Constitution of Russia and is a cynical challenge to morality, historical traditions and the socio-cultural code of all peoples living on the territory of our country.”

According to the Article 79 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, decisions of international courts that contradict the Constitution have no legal effect in Russia and should not be enforced.
