Earlier, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution according to which Russia should not apply its legislation in Crimea. PACE also reaffirmed “non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea.” The resolution was adopted based on the report of the representative of Iceland, Sunna Ævarsdóttir, on the situation with the Crimean Tatars.

wrote in his Telegram channel that the parliamentarian from Iceland had
never been in Crimea, she did not know the situation and did not speak with
local residents. At the same time, she thought that it was just enough to use a set of clichés like “annexation”, “repression”, “violations of rights”. This
was the basis of her “revolutionary call” to apply the Ukrainian laws in Crimea.
“For my part, I will raise the issue of a biased resolution, which is offensive to us, adopted by PACE on the basis of the report of the representative of Iceland, at a meeting with the Speaker of the Icelandic Parliament, which is expected to be held on June 29. The parliamentarian provided false information, mispresented the real situation,” the Chairman of the State Duma commented on the resolution.
“That was an unfriendly act, and we have the right to address the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation to introduce a ban on entry to Russia for that parliamentarian,” added Viacheslav Volodin.
He recalled that only when Crimea became a part of the Russian Federation, the Crimean Tatar language received the status of the state language, as well as Russian and Ukrainian. In addition, Crimean Tatars are able to work in government bodies, have been elected to the State Duma, and participate in the adoption of key decisions for Crimea and all our country.
“Once again I want to emphasize that the Crimean Tatars now have the opportunity to be educated in their native language. On an equal basis with Ukrainians and Russians. All 23 previous years, they did not have such opportunity. Therefore, if PACE wants to protect the Crimean Tatars, pay attention to Ukraine,” stressed Viacheslav Volodin.
In his opinion, before preparing such resolutions, the PACE rapporteurs should visit Crimea, talk to people, the human rights commissioner and parliamentarians representing Crimea.
“You cannot prepare such documents only on the basis what other people say. At least you should learn more about the legislation of the countries you are monitoring. And you make such statements and do not bear any responsibility for them,” concluded the Chairman of the State Duma.
