The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
to the journalist. “We see it as an economic project, for Europe it is an economic project
too. It would be good for European states to receive cheap gas. That would give them an opportunity to effectively develop their
industry, energy, and other areas. They would be able to create jobs and develop their states. As for the United States of America, that is also an economic project, but the US authorities understand that they would not stand
that sort of competition with Russia. Thus, they use political tools instead of economic by offering their own shale gas, which is more expensive,“ said
the Chairman of the State Duma.
Such actions of the US authorities like political pressure, sanctions, are aimed at impeding the construction of Nord Stream 2, and that will create new economic problems in the European states, make economies inefficient and uncompetitive.
“The European authorities should finally understand that no matter whether they are member states in alliances like NATO, or parts of other organizations or signed agreements, they should think about interests of their citizens, about the sovereignty of their states. And we see that in the current situation the citizens, economies and even sovereignty of the European states have been affected,” said Viacheslav Volodin.
He also drew attention to the increased competition between the USA and China, and the US authorities did not support current level of cooperation between Russia and China. “So we see different attacks directed either at China, or at Russia, or at both states at the same time,” stressed Viacheslav Volodin.
The Chairman of the State Duma is convinced that it is necessary to make all efforts to preserve peace and global security and create conditions for development of all states.
“Several states have already lost their sovereignty, and when we see actions of authorities of the Czech Republic or the Baltic states, of course, some actions are unacceptable. They make mistakes, in fact that could not be corrected, as they want to curry favor with the United States of America, while that would affect the interests of their citizens,” said Viacheslav Volodin. He added that cooperation between Russia and China could be a good example of partnership in the interests of citizens of each state.
“No one stops the United States of America from building cooperation with other states, but the US authorities want to rip off more just to maintain their own monopoly. That is unacceptable,” he concluded.
