“A totalitarian regime has been created in the country where there are no more opposition media and opposition parties. The Council of Europe, the European Parliament and PACE should recognize their responsibility for that,” Viacheslav Volodin Volodin Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin

The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
wrote in his Telegram channel.

“When all opposition media outlets were closed in Ukraine, European authorities and international institutions did not say anything. Because it was important for them to keep the current Ukrainian government in any way,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.

He added that they limited the freedom of expression and began to eliminate the opposition party headed by Viktor Medvedchuk, “by sacrificing the already imperfect political system of Ukraine”.

Viacheslav Volodin recalled that almost similar situation had already taken place in Ukraine, when the Communist Party was closed to retain power of Petro Poroshenko under the pretext of “decommunization”.

“By their actions in Ukraine, European states discredit not only themselves, but also the principles of democracy, rights and freedoms of citizens that they proclaimed. And of course, “double standards”, which have become common practice when Western states try to fulfill their interests,” he concluded.
