The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
told journalists on Monday, commenting on the ECHR's demands for an interim measure and immediate release of Alexei Navalny.

He is convinced that the calls of the ECHR to release Alexei Navalny are “politically biased”.

“They are trying to replace national justice with their own rules. That is unacceptable,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.

According to him, “this entire hysteria just proves that our country is developing and becoming stronger, otherwise no one would impose sanctions.”

Speaking about new Western sanctions, Viacheslav Volodin recalled the Nord Stream 2 situation.

“The Nord Stream will be completed if the European states struggle for their economies, for the interests of their citizens. Europe, Germany, really needs Nord Stream 2,” he said and added that this project would be better than shale gas from the United States.

The Chairman of the State Duma said that “if the Europeans put the interests of the USA ahead of the interests of European states, it would be their own choice.”
