“It is necessary to ensure and protect sovereignty of the country and rights of the Russian citizens of Russia, not taking into account statements made in Brussels or in Strasbourg. We should stop listening to those who urge us to be more careful not to disturb our esteemed Western counterparts. Just stop it, it is already enough! We should not bend just to avoid discussions, and to pretend that nothing is happening. Most of our citizens clearly see the difference between words and actions, and there is no need to crawl to armchair warriors, Facebook minority. It is time to call things by their proper names and defend the values,” said Petr Tolstoy Tolstoy Petr Olegovich Tolstoy
Petr Olegovich
at the plenary meeting on Wednesday, February 10.

“A new hybrid war is being waged against us, there are no shots, but it is not less dangerous. All the tools and scenarios of the non-military overthrow of the government have already been described. Economic sanctions, creation of an image of the enemy, spreading of fake investigations aimed at undermining the authority of the government, aggressive takeover of ideology, degradation of parts of the elites with a help of Western consumption values. Then, according to the scenario, there will be peaceful protests, provocations, overthrow of the undesirable government and waiver of the country's sovereignty,” the parliamentarian said.

According to him, creation of national idea and ideology of Russia as a victorious state and a common home for many nationalities that had lived together throughout many centuries would be one of the response measures.

“Nature abhors a vacuum: if there is no ideology, something will definitely replace it. Modern way of life, development of information technologies — all these things provide opportunity for crowd manipulations, and without answering the questions ”What to do?“, ”Where are we going?“, ”Who are we?“ society cannot exist normally. Thus, the national idea should include a vision of the future for young people. Today, as there is no alternative, young people may have those ideas that are completely destructive in relation to their own country, their own history,” said Petr Tolstoy.

He added that it was necessary to complete the implementation of a set of measures adopted as part of amendments to the Russian Constitution.

The next issue is ensuring information sovereignty. It's not just about eliminating American social media censorship. Russian laws should apply to everyone who works in our country; global companies should have their representative offices in Russia, and pay taxes on advertising revenue here. Same rules for those who get money from other countries, or are involved in political activities here, for all bloggers.

“I believe that their fees should be transparent for the citizens of the country. People should know where this or that person receives donations: even in bitcoins or in dollars,” said Petr Tolstoy.

He added that it was necessary to improve legislation related to personal data protection, protection of honor and dignity.

“Now all personal data is in publicly available. Social networks are like open books. Do you remember the attempts to publish personal information about security forces by some ”mama’s revolutionaries“? It is useless to go to court on this issue, the same situation is with offence to honor and dignity of a person in social networks. I do not mean representatives of authorities, just ordinary people. The compensations for moral damage are simply ridiculous,” he stressed.

“Stop defending. We must move forward. We had already waited twice for the invaders to be on our land, we let them get closer. Once we chased them to Paris, the second time to Berlin. Therefore, truth is might, and I am convinced that the victory will be ours,” concluded Petr Tolstoy.
