commented on the controversial remarks of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on the outcomes of his visit to Moscow.

“Apparently, the head of the EU diplomacy has to make so-called “balanced” statements not to upset his overseas counterparts,” the parliamentarian said.

Anton Morozov added that the EU diplomacy had to navigate between the interests of European states and the US instructions, and Washington continued to tell what the EU political interests should be in relation to Russia.

“The United States has a significant influence on the EU diplomacy and, unfortunately, pushes European colleagues into confrontation with Russia, including on the issues related to Nord Stream 2, Alexei Navalny case, and many other issues. In fact, these are repercussions of geopolitical competition, as the EU rapprochement with Russian is not good for the USA,” Anton Morozov told journalists.

The parliamentarian expressed confidence that “the US pressure would hardly be able to halt the constructive dialogue between the EU and Moscow”.

“We should not pay attention to that, as we are part of Europe. It is obvious that our cooperation will continue to develop, despite all contradictions. I hope that our diplomacy and the EU diplomacy will do their best for that,” concluded Anton Morozov.
