The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
held a meeting with Woo Yoon-keun, Special
Envoy of the President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in.
The meeting participants discussed issues of development of bilateral cooperation, including at parliamentary level. Viacheslav Volodin and Woo Yoon-keun also discussed the upcoming official visit of the delegation of the State Duma to the Republic of Korea, which will be held on 27–28 December 2020. The second meeting of the Inter-parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea is planned to be held during the visit.
Viacheslav Volodin noted the significant contribution of leaders of both states to the development of bilateral relations. “Our presidents have done a lot to make development of relations between Russia and the Republic of Korea more dynamic. That also helped to develop cooperation between our parliaments,” Viacheslav Volodin said. “Address of President Moon Jae-in at the plenary meeting of the State Duma contributed a lot to the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation,” added the Chairman of the State Duma.
Woo Yoon-keun conveyed words of gratitude of the President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in for the opportunity to address members of the State Duma in June 2018.
In 2020, Russia and the Republic
of Korea mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations
between the states (September 30, 1990).
On 28 May 2019, a delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, headed by Chairman Moon Hee-sang, paid an official visit to Russia and met with members of the State Duma. The first meeting of the Inter-parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea was also held at the State Duma.
Woo Yoon-keun had been a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea several times since 2004, from 2017 to 2019 he served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Russian Federation.
