Chairman of the State Duma Committee commented on allegations against Russia of COVID-19 disinformation

Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutskiy commented articles of the Associated Press and The New York Times containing allegations against Russia of spreading disinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic to discredit the US authorities. He called it another fake and targeted media strategy in advance of the upcoming elections of the 46th US President

“Both US parties, including with a help of media, are playing the 'external’ card. Republicans have put all blame on China for the failure of the national health system, while Democrats stubbornly continue to cultivate myths about Russian interference in US internal political processes. Both parties are mistaking their dreams for reality trying to justify their own mistakes and defeats, as well as to absolve themselves of responsibility for the current crisis in the country,” the parliamentarian said.

added that ”all these publications are bald-faced lies.“ He recalled that Russia during the pandemic provided assistance to foreign states, including the United States.

“We are not engaged in 'disinformation'. Our US counterparts have been much more successful in that, saying absolutely groundlessly to the whole world about imaginary ‘Russian threat’,” he concluded.
