Member of the Committee on Issues of the Commonwealth of Independent States and Contacts with Fellow Countryman, representative of the Altai Republic at the State Duma, Ivan Belekov Belekov Ivan Ituloviсh Belekov

took part in an extended meeting of the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, which was held in the Civic Chamber of Russia on January 30–31. The main goal of the meeting was to summarize the results of work of the Assembly for 2019, as well as approving an agenda for 2020.

Representatives of more than 20 countries of Eurasia attended the meeting. They took a decision to organize work to increase the Assembly's presence in all states of Greater Eurasia. Ivan Belekov was also elected to the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly.

“Today, one of the most important activities of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly is the implementation of the ideas and applied tasks of Eurasianism. So, I had the opportunity to make a presentation on this issue. For us, Eurasianism is not just Europe and Asia, it is a conflation of civilizations, cultures and nationalities of our great and timeless Motherland,” said the parliamentarian. ⠀

In his speech, he paid attention to the fact that the Altai vector of Eurasian integration has recently become particularly important. “The land of Altai is the junction of civilizations and cultures of many nations, the place of origin of the Turkic peoples of the whole world, a place where spirituality has always been valued. No wonder Altai is determined to be a prototype for making a model of the spiritual and ecological civilization of the future,” Ivan Belekov stressed. “It is a great honor for me to be elected to the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly at this meeting. I take into account that Altai really plays a very important role in Eurasian integration today,” the parliamentarian said.

The General Council approved the creation of a committee Greater Eurasia – Africa under the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly.

The Assembly will intensify preparations for the Eurasian Games, and will form a board of trustees by the end of this year.

On the same day, the General Secretary of the Assembly Andrey Belyaninov signed a cooperation agreement between the International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations “Assembly of the Peoples of Russia” and the TASS news agency with the Eurasian Creative Guild, the Russian-French Economic Chamber and the African Publishing House.

The Eurasian Peoples' Assembly was established in 2017. The next reporting and election meeting of the Assembly will be held in the spring of 2021.
