“It would be right for the Committees on International Affairs, Education and Science, Culture, Issues of the CIS and Contacts with Fellow Countryman, as well as our delegations to PACE, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, and other inter-parliamentary structures to consider the protection of historical memory as a priority in our work ”, said Viacheslav Volodin Volodin Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin

“For us, it was always important that history is not re-written, the truth about the war is not distorted. Some facts are unchanging. But today we see how the politicians of several countries do everything to distort them, rewrite history in their interests. This is unacceptable,” he stressed.

The Chairman of the State Duma advised the members of the Sejm of Poland not to distort historical facts, denigrating the memory of soldiers-liberators of World War II.

“Before making statements the leaders of modern Poland need to know at what cost freedom of the Polish people was won. At the cost of half a million killed Soviet soldiers and officers,” said Viacheslav Volodin.

He urged Poland to apologize for its current behavior on the international arena and for its predecessors: “Hundreds of extermination and death camps where Jews, Slavs, and prisoners of war of other nationalities were purposefully extinguished were located in Poland. This was largely facilitated by the pre-war atmosphere in Poland and the position of the leadership of this country, which fueled anti-Semitic sentiments in society, creating the ground for the subsequent genocide and the Holocaust. And for this, the current leadership of Poland must apologize to the Jews and the whole world.”
