met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Jordan Gleb Desyatnikov in Amman. The meeting was held within the official program of the visit of the Russian parliamentarian to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with the aim of developing cooperation in the tourism industry between the countries.

The participants of the meeting discussed issues of visa regulation, bilateral tourist flows, safety of Russian citizens during their stay in the resorts of the Kingdom. Sergei Krivonosov expressed the position on the need to simplify the conditions for tourist visa application by Jordanians. 3000 Russian visas are issued per year in Jordan, 2000 of them for tourist purposes. According to the Federal Agency for Tourism, 52 000 Russian citizens visit Jordan every year.

Gleb Desyatnikov emphasized that with the increase of number of tourists coming to the country, a priority issue is ensuring the safety of Russian tourists. The ambassador named tourist destinations that may be of interest to the people of Jordan, Kazan and Mineralnye Vody are among them. Sergei Krivonosov proposed to popularize the southern resort cities of Russia. “Sochi has the greatest potential, we are ready to discuss the Caucasian direction and promote these tourism products in Jordan,” he said. According to experts, Jordan can also serve as a transit point for tourists from Saudi Arabia and Iraq to Russian resorts, the parliamentarian stressed.

The head of the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Jordan Stanislav Simakov also attended the meeting. He spoke about the implementation of the training program for Jordanian students in Russian universities, and measures taken to support compatriots living in the Kingdom. Following the meeting, the parties agreed on information exchange, interaction and support on the development of Russian-Jordanian relations in the tourism industry.

Sergei Krivonosov also held a bilateral meeting with the director of the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Amman Stanislav Simakov.

Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Physical Culture, Sport and Youth Affairs learned more about the main activities of the Centre and its capabilities in the interests of promoting the tourism potential of Russia in Jordan. Sergei Krivonosov and Stanislav Simakov discussed options for the use of the representative office for holding presentations, seminars and exhibitions.

“The representative offices of Rossotrudnichestvo can perform not only humanitarian functions, but also can promote the idea to visit Russia for the purpose of tourism,” the Russian parliamentarian said. This initiative can be implemented with the help of the Association of Economic Interaction of the Subjects of the Russian Federation “Tourism Development Union in the Russian Federation”, with which Rossotrudnichestvo is planning to sign an agreement on cooperation in tourism industry. Sergei Krivonosov stressed that representatives of the Russian travel industry are ready to promote their tourism products in the Jordanian market, but for this they need support in the country. “Many Russian people living in Jordan, and the Jordanians themselves, who got education in the USSR or Russia, are interested in establishing cultural cooperation with their countrymen, including through event, cultural tourism,” Stanislav Simakov assured.

The meeting participants agreed that joint activities are necessary for the further development of Russian-Jordanian relations. Representatives of the Russian travel industry, including the federal tour operators Pegas Touristik, Space Travel, the mountain resort Krasnaya Polyana and the managment company of the airports of Sochi, Krasnodar and Anapa also took part in the meeting, as they arrived in Amman to establish tourist relations between the countries.

Sergei Krivonosov is a member of the Interparliamentary Group on interaction with the Parliament of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. In Amman, the parliamentarian held talks with the representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB), the Jordan Society of Tourist and Travel Agents, and the Royal Jordanian Airlines on organization of events to form mutual tourist flows between the tourist centers of the countries as part of beach, religious, and wellness tourism.
