The parliamentarian spoke on behalf of the political faction “United Russia” at the Russia-Africa forum, which took place in Sochi on October 23–24. Svetlana Zhurova noted the importance of developing Russian-African relations.

“Our interest in Africa is a new priority. Recently, our relations have been actively developing, we are conducting a major international dialogue with Africa. African countries support Russia on international platforms in many issues,” she stressed.

According to Svetlana Zhurova, African countries cannot independently deal with several problems, such as crime, terrorism, piracy, illness, and elimination of illiteracy. Russia plays a crucial role in their solution.

“For Russia, it is now important to develop our profitable trade and economic relations, and this is an investment that will bring income, economic growth,” the parliamentarian said.

Svetlana Zhurova also noted the importance of joint agreements on cooperation both in the military-technical and in the trade sphere, mechanical engineering, agriculture, and energy. According to her, Russia’s participation in such projects adds value to them, since “Africa is used to the predatoriness of international players.”

Also, Russia has always made a great contribution to the training of personnel. In particular, more than 17 thousand students from Africa study at our universities.

“Helping Africans solve existing security problems will help make the situation in the world more stable and predictable,” summed up Svetlana Zhurova.
