The Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs also noted that the parliamentarians are ready to submit for consideration the draft law introduced by the President of the Russian Federation on the withdrawal of the statement made upon ratification of the Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, relating to the protection of victims of international armed conflicts

“I think that in the near future we will discuss it at the Committee’s meeting,” said Leonid Slutskiy Slutsky Leonid Eduardovich Slutsky

He called the President’s decision absolutely balanced and reasonable.

“I have no doubt that the Committee will support the draft law. The key here is the commission’s actual inaction, as well as, and it is very important, the danger of its politicization with the hypothetical possibility of using it to escalate the situation on the international arena,” said the head of the Committee.

“In general, I think it would be useful to conduct a revision of international agreements and treaties signed by the Russian side in terms of their compliance with the foreign policy of the Russian Federation in the current very difficult situation in the world,” the parliamentarian said.
