A representative of Roskomnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media) was invited to a meeting to provide new evidence confirming the facts of foreign interference in the Russian election campaign. Including the illegal campaigning in foreign media and on foreign web sites like Google and Facebook on the ”day of silence“ and voting day, and that is a direct violation of Russian law. The representative of the Federal Service also provided facts that there was posted information on these resources containing calls to take part in unauthorized demonstrations, and that directly violates the law.

said that the Commission together with representatives of Roskomnadzor, the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation and other relevant departments, has begun preparing legislative initiatives aimed at protecting the sovereignty of the Russian Federation. Initiatives will be presented in the near future, as now they are thoroughly discussed.

”The initiatives will affect foreign non-profit and non-governmental organizations, as well as organizations recognized as foreign agents,“ said Vasilii Piskarev.

 He also stressed that it is necessary to open Goodle and Facebook representative offices in Russia to have the opportunity for regular legal interaction on all issues. According to the parliamentarian, representatives of these two companies will be invited to the next meeting of the Commission.

”We intend to make a decision on these resources, how they are going to continue to work on the territory of our country – to comply or not to comply with Russian legislation, — said Vasilii Piskarev. — But there was one delicate point: it turns out that their entire agenda is formed abroad, and we do not have a legally relevant representative office to be engaged in dialogue.“

Representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Central Election Commission, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Justice attended the meeting.

Vasilii Piskarev, following the meeting of the Commission, said that all the authorities told about the work done to counter foreign interference in our internal affairs.

”In particular, the representative of Ministry of Justice said that in recent years, nine foreign media has been recognized as foreign agents, they were funded from abroad. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, 10 materials are under consideration for recognition as NPOs-foreign agents, as they have a destructive impact on political affairs in our country and threaten the security of our state,“ he said.

The proposal to establish the Commission on the Investigation of Foreign Interference in Russia's Internal Affairs was unanimously supported by the members of the State Duma at the plenary meeting on September 10. The tasks of the Commission are to study and analyze the facts and circumstances of interference of foreign states in the internal Affairs of Russia, to prepare proposals for the adoption of legislative measures to counter foreign interference, as well as to provide information to the parliaments of foreign states and inter-parliamentary organizations. The Commission consists of 12 members representing all the parliamentary factions.
