The State Duma called the words of US congressmen to impose sanctions against the Russian authorities a blatant interference in Russian affairs

Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutskiy said that the appeals of the Chairman and eldest republican of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of the US Congress, Eliot Engel and Michael McCaul, “once again confirm of the correctness of the decision of the State Duma to create a special Commission to investigate the facts of foreign interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation”

“Appeals of the Chairman and eldest republican of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives Eliot Engel and Michael McCaul to impose sanctions against the Russian authorities for alleged “violations of human rights” during unauthorized rallies in Moscow and St. Petersburg are examples of another blatant interference in the affairs of the Russian Federation,” said Leonid Slutskiy Slutsky Leonid Eduardovich Slutsky

He stressed that on the eve of a single voting day in Russia, congressmen “allow themselves to transmit assessments that are very far from being objective, based on distorted information and double standards.”

“Such statements once again confirm the correctness of the decision of the State Duma to create a special Commission to investigate the facts of foreign interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation,” noted the Chairman of the Committee.

He also recalled that an invitation to take part in the meeting of the Commission had already been sent to US Ambassador Mr.Huntsman, and “we look forward to his reaction.”

“As for the direct calls to extent the sanctions list — the Global Magnitsky Act, I would like to recall that in 2012 Russia adopted a law on counter-sanctions with a comprehensive set of retaliatory measures. And any actions of the American side in this issue will have the opposite effect,” the parliamentarian concluded.
