Chairman of the relevant Committee commented on words of Ukrainian Foreign Minister about reaction to Russia’s return to PACE

Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutskiy said that the promises of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister "not to make formal polite gestures" towards PACE if the Russian delegation returns to Strasbourg is blackmail, which "is hardly able to impress anyone"

“Klimkin's promises “not to make formal polite gestures” towards PACE (as he said, “an institution that has discredited itself”) if the Russian delegation returns to Strasbourg is nothing but blackmail, which, I think, is hardly able to impress anyone. Even if Ukraine will take extreme measures and declare a boycott, as it had already been done at the Session of Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers in Helsinki, this is unlikely to affect the constructive and professional activities of the Assembly”, Leonid Slutskiy Slutsky Leonid Eduardovich Slutsky

said.

“Ukrainian people's members of Parliament, basically, had not previously bothered to demonstrate good manners in Strasbourg. We all remember a representative of the Ukrainian delegation with the green plumbing seals demonstratively walking around the Palace of Europe, as well as the disgusting incident of insulting of Russian TV journalist Olga Skabaeeva by Ukrainian politicians in PACE,” the Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs noted.

“Rejection of dialogue and attempts to propose ultimatums affect Ukraine itself. Kiev demonstrates political immaturity, powerlessness, inability to maturely address issues of common European stability and security,” Leonid Slutskiy said.

“No one deprives the Ukrainian delegation of its rights. On the contrary, if the recommended amendments to the Regulations are adopted, Ukraine, like all other national delegations, will be protected from discrimination,” the parliamentarian stressed.

“The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky a couple of days ago signed and submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a request on relieving of Pavel Klimkin of his duties as foreign minister. This is an objective assessment of the results of the work of this figure, who has discredited his country and conducted a failed foreign policy course managed from abroad and did not serve the interests of Ukrainians”, Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs concluded.
