Vyacheslav Victorovich
The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation. Elected in single mandate constituency № 163 (Saratov constituency - Saratov Oblast)
addressed the members of the Serbian parliament.
First of all, the Chairman of the State Duma thanked for the opportunity to address the representatives of the friendly Serbian people.
“Today is a very special day for me — my colleagues and I came to our friends. And we have the opportunity to discuss a lot of issues of our bilateral relations and the international agenda. Russia and Serbia are countries that live in friendship and respect for each other throughout the history of mutual relations,” he said.
”The Serbian proverb says: ‘Good brotherhood is more precious than wealth.’ This is about us, about friendship and a strong brotherhood of Serbs and Russians. The identity of any nation is determined by history, religion, culture, and language. Our history, faith, and culture have a lot in common,” he added.
The Chairman of the State Duma stressed: “Russia has always considered it its duty to support the fraternal Serbian people, stood up to protect it in difficult years.”
He reminded that it began 140 years ago when Serbia gained independence: ”Russia fought together with you for this independence.“ According to Viacheslav Volodin, in 1914 Russia joined World War I in defense of Serbia to prove its support to Serbian people.
“And in October 1944, the Red Army troops and the People’s Liberation Army of Yugoslavia liberated the Serbian land from the Nazi invaders. Four thousand three hundred Soviet soldiers remained forever in the Serbian land, liberating Belgrade, more than fourteen thousand were injured,” he stated.
Viacheslav Volodin thanked the people of Serbia for their solicitous attitude to the graves of Soviet soldiers, to the memory of those who gave their lives for the freedom of the world from Nazism.
“Next 2020 is the year of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory over fascist Germany. This is our common holiday! Having passed through severe trials, through two world wars, our peoples today are united in assessing the lessons of history,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
“It is important for us to continue together to resist attempts to rewrite history, to justify the crimes of the Nazis and their accomplices. Our peoples paid a high price for freedom and independence to betray the memory of those who gave their lives for it,” he stressed.
“We are united not only by faith, common saints but also by one soul that is broad and kind,” said Viacheslav Volodin.
