On Wednesday, May 22, the State Duma held a bilateral meeting between the President of the Republic of the Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, and the Chairman of the State Duma, Viacheslav Volodin.
“Working
within the framework of the parliamentary dimension with African countries is a priority for us. It is our pleasure that today you have the opportunity to address the members of the State Duma. We would like to listen to you and your
proposals, which are very important for us, taking into account the necessity
to develop more actively cooperation within the framework of inter-parliamentary
contacts,” said Viacheslav Volodin, welcoming the head of state.
He stressed that ”we are looking forward to your meeting with our President, it is extremely important for us that relations receive a new impetus.“
“For our part, we will do everything to legally ensure the agreements that will be reached at the highest level between our President Vladimir Putin and you,” said Viacheslav Volodin, adding that the results of tomorrow’s meeting of heads of state “will definitely contribute to the development of inter-parliamentary relations.“
Denis
Sassou Nguesso thanked Viacheslav Volodin for the opportunity to meet with the Russian parliamentarians and address the State Duma. He reminded that he had
repeatedly been in various statuses in the Soviet Union and then in Russia.
“It is a great honor for me to be in Russia and meet my old friends, as these are the prerequisites
for the development of our cooperation. Meeting with representatives of the Russian people is symbolic,” said the President of the Republic of the Congo.
He also reminded
that this year marks 55 years since the establishment of bilateral relations
between the countries, and “the time has come to establish a true strategic
mutually beneficial partnership, to develop all areas of relations with the Russian people.”
“We have all means for this,” Denis Sassou Nguesso expressed his confidence.
The Chairman of the State Duma invited the delegation of the Congo parliament to take part in the International Forum “Development of Parliamentarism”, which
will be held in Moscow on July 1–3. “This will allow us to both get to know
each other and discuss the issues that concern our peoples,” said Viacheslav
Volodin.
Denis
Sassou Nguesso accepted the invitation of the Chairman of the State Duma,
saying that ”of course, our parliamentarians will participate in this
Forum.“ The delegation will be led by the Chairman of the National
Assembly of the Parliament of the Republic of the Congo, who studied at a Russian university and married a Russian woman.
“This
visit will contribute to the development of our inter-parliamentary relations,”
the President of the Republic of the Congo expressed confidence.
