Moreover, Denis Sassou Nguesso noted that issues on the international agenda are the area where the similarity of the positions of Russia and the Congo reflects a high degree of trust between the countries.

In his speech, he also drew attention to the most important challenges faced by the state. In particular, he spoke about environmental issues such as climate change.

Denis Sassou Nguesso said that in this regard, the Republic of the Congo is making great efforts to preserve the ecosystem of the Congo Basin, as it is the second-largest “green lungs” of the planet after Amazonia. He also called on Russia to help preserve the ecosystem of a giant peat bog recently discovered in this country.

“Recently a tropical peat bog, the largest in the world with very huge hydrocarbon reserves in swampy place with a total area of 145 thousand square kilometers, has been discovered. This discovery should be the subject of international dialogue, should attract the entire international community. I want to appeal to the Russian Federation with a request to support our country in protecting this fragile ecosystem and to support the effective work of the program of our special climate commission for the Congo Basin,” he said

In conclusion, the President of the Republic of the Congo proposed to strengthen the mutual strategic partnership between Russia and the Congo and assist the Congo in the process of diversifying the economy in the interests and for the benefit of both countries.

“Today, Russia remains the most important player, a very active player, which undoubtedly participates in global governance in our common family of nations. And you can only be happy to have such a powerful strong friend like Russia on the international arena, of course. And I urge our friends from Russia to continue to strengthen our strategic partnership on mutually beneficial terms and assist the Congo in the process of diversifying our economy in the interests and for the benefits of our countries. Long live the friendship! Long live solidarity! And long live cooperation between the Congo and Russia,” concluded Denis Sassou Nguesso.
