The adoption of the law on the exclusivity of the Ukrainian language directly violates the Declaration of Human Rights. A member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, member of the United Russia faction Elena Panina Panina Elena Vladimirovna Panina

told journalists such an opinion.

“There are a lot of people in Ukraine who speak Russian, for whom it is their native language. It does not mean that they do not recognize the Ukrainian language, but freedom of choice, of course, should belong to the people,” said Elena Panina.

According to her, the text of the law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada is blasphemous.

“That means that a Russian-speaking person who has to seek medical assistance, who cannot speak Ukrainian well, will be refused treatment. What human rights are we talking about?” the parliamentarian noted.

The member of the State Duma believes that this is not the last law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada and the outgoing President Petro Poroshenko. “Now they use the same tactics that the US Congress used against Donald Trump when he became the US President. The Verkhovna Rada began to adopt new laws swiftly to tie the hands of the elected president who has not yet assumed office. This is almost directly stated that Mr. Zelensky’s hand will be so tied that he will not be able to negotiate with Russia in any way,” Elena Panina said.

She believes that Ukrainian people are likely to read Russian classic literature in the Ukrainian language.
