“All meetings were held at the highest and confiding level. Of course, one of the topics that were discussed was security: we are in favor of continuing the dialogue between the North and the South of the Korean Peninsula, as well as supporting Pyongyang’s steps aimed at fulfilling the requirements of the UN Security Council,” said Sergei Neverov Neverov Sergey Ivanovich Neverov

According to him, at the meetings of the Russian parliamentary delegation with representatives of the DPRK top leadership that took place in Pyongyang the question of easing the sanctions was raised.

“Last year, at the third plenum of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea the DPRK decided to close the missile landfill and cease nuclear testing. All this suggests that the actions taken by the DPRK leadership today allow for a dialogue on the easing of sanctions, at least in the humanitarian sphere: the supply of medicines, food, and agricultural products. The dialogue on sanctions against the DPRK should be conducted within the framework of the UN Security Council,” said Sergei Neverov.

The Russian delegation also met with Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic Choe Ryong Hae and Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, head of the international department of the party Ri Su Yong.

During the visit, the issue of supplying of modern Russian aircraft for international passenger traffic to the DPRK was discussed.

Sergei Neverov said that the proposals and suggestions regarding economic cooperation will be promptly communicated to the Prime Minister of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev.
