The Deputy Chairman of the State Duma also noted that Washington’s policy of ignoring generally accepted principles in resolving the Arab-Israeli conflict seriously aggravates the situation. He noted that the recent recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights by US President Donald Trump violates accepted norms of international law.
In addition, Sergei Neverov stressed that the development of rational solutions on the settlement of the Syrian conflict is of particular importance. According to him, a good example is the “joint work of the participants of the Astana process, in coordination with the Syrian parties and the UN, on the establishment of the Constitutional Committee in Syria as soon as possible” and creation of conditions for the return of Syrian refugees homes.
“We rely on the assistance of the Omani side, as one of the key players in the region, in this matter,” added the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma.
In turn, the President of the Council of State of the Sultanate of Oman supported the position of Sergei Neverov. He also noted that nowadays trade between countries is growing, the flow of tourists from Russia to Oman is increasing.
In response, Sergei Neverov stressed that although the trade volume is increasing, it is still not very high. At the same time, countries need to find new areas of cooperation in technology and the digital economy.
“And, of course, we are ready to assist in maintaining cultural ties,” concluded Sergei Neverov.
