“It is important for Russia that Serbia’s rights to the southern region are respected. We will support any Serbia’s decision on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija if it meets the standards of political consensus and does not cause civil upheavals,” Evgenii Primakov Primakov Evgenii Aleksandrovich Primakov

stressed.

As for the European integration of Belgrade, the Russian parliamentarian noted: “The country is located in the center of Europe and its economic life is connected with the European Union. But we see how the Bulgarian economy was destroyed after its entry into the European Union, this should not be allowed to happen to Serbia. I would also urge not to forget that the EU officials promised Serbia integration with “small steps”: extradite Karadžić, respect the common policy of the European Union, join the anti-Russia sanctions. It is necessary to understand where the line between the compromise and the “trough” lies. We are concerned about the interests of the Serbian people and their safety. If Serbia enters the European Union on its own terms, then it will be useful for the country,” said the Russian parliamentarian.

Primakov also noted that the question BRICS or the EU should not be put bluntly. “It is important for Serbia to cooperate with both structures. Oof course, close cooperation with the CSTO is an additional opportunity but the country has chosen the position of military neutrality and this choice shall be respected,” said the member of the State Duma.
