Head of the Information Committee commented on the blocking of the RT video project on Facebook

The absence of clear Facebook’s explanations on blocking the RT video project suggests an ordered nature of these actions, aimed at putting pressure on media projects broadcasting a different point of view than those indicated by Western governments, Leonid Levin believes

“Blocking of the media project account “In the Now” of the RT channel looks like an example of Facebook’s incorrect policy not only towards Russian media but also to the global journalistic community,” said Leonid Levin Levin Leonid Leonidoviсh Levin

, Chairman of the Committee on Informational Policy, Technologies and Communications, commenting on the blocking of the Russia Today (RT) video project “In the Now” on Facebook.

According to the parliamentarian, “the absence of clear explanations from this social platform suggests an ordered nature of these actions, aimed at putting pressure on media projects broadcasting a different point of view than those indicated by Western governments.”

“It is necessary to not only widely publicize this precedent of restricting freedom of speech and freedom of dissemination of information, but, in general, put the issue of compliance of large Western platforms with the basic principles of democratic society before the international journalistic community. This is especially important in the absence of interstate regulation of this area,” said Leonid Levin.

Facebook should provide detailed explanations in order to have the possibility to assess the company's actions for compliance with generally accepted ethical and professional standards, the Chairman of the Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications believes.
