The parties discussed the development of Russian-Korean inter-parliamentary cooperation.

“The Russian-Korean dialogue is actively developing, we follow example of our presidents (in 2017 they met twice, last year there was also a meeting). We are satisfied with the development of our inter-parliamentary contacts. recalled that the agreement on cooperation between the two parties was signed two years ago, and it is already possible now to identify the most productive areas of cooperation.

“There is a frank and fair exchange of views on a different range of international policy issues. This is an excellent example of broad range of different tools of our relationship. This is as official diplomacy, parliamentary diplomacy, party diplomacy and also the interaction of the expert community of the two countries,” he said.

Evgenii Primakov added that cooperation is ongoing in the framework of the United Russia working group on international cooperation with the Democratic Party of the Republic of Korea. In particular, United Russia welcomes the peace process on the Korean Peninsula. “The dialogue with your northern neighbor is welcome. However, in our opinion, it should be inclusive and involve countries interested in a peaceful settlement of the situation on the peninsula,” the parliamentarian stressed.

Head of faction of the Democratic Party in the Parliament of the Republic of Korea Hong Young-pyo confirmed that the purpose of the visit of the Korean delegation to Moscow is exchange of views on the progress in the demilitarization process on the Korean Peninsula in the framework of inter-factional and inter-party dialogue.

“I am sure that the inter-parliamentary dialogue between our factions will contribute to the achievement of such goals. And trilateral cooperation between Russia, the DPRK and the Republic of Korea is very important, as it can contribute to the development of the entire Eurasian continent,” the head of the Korean parliamentary delegation noted.

During the working meeting, Sergei Neverov invited his colleagues from the Republic of Korea to discuss the idea of establishment of an inter-parliamentary commission, which can help to develop cooperation between the two countries at the parliamentary level.

“We have already established such commissions with a number of countries. Like Turkey, Germany and Italy. I think that in the near future we can discuss the issues of creation of a commission with the Republic of Korea. All political factions discuss various issues within the framework of this commission,” said the head of the United Russia faction.

He explained that the relevant committees of the State Duma actively cooperate with colleagues from other countries in the framework of such commissions. In particular, Sergei Neverov told about the joint work in the economic, energy, transport and other areas.

At the end of the meeting, Hong Young-pyo invited Sergei Neverov to pay a reciprocal visit to the Republic of Korea.
